Argentine Jewish Community Stands Up

The Government of Argentina, desperate with the American position on its ongoing stealing from foreign creditors (the IMF at last dared to publish that Argentine's accounts are false and have been cheating the holders of its inflation-indexed debt out of billions of dollars) and is trying to find allies among the anti-American countries. Following Hugo Chavez's lead, they are negotiating with Iran. The problem is that Iran committed two terrible terrorist acts in Buenos Aires: One bombing the AMIA, the Jewish Community's building, killing some 70 persons, and then against the Israeli Ambassy, killing another fifty or so. The investigation revealed that Iran bribed Argentine President Menem (Price: a miserly twenty million) to stop the process. Menem was duely punished, but the case is festering and will not go away.

Now that the Argentine Foreign Minister Timmerman has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran intending to close definitely the criminal affair, the Argentine Jewish Community took a deep breath and standed up in the center of the public arena, and is organizing the fractured opposition to come out courageously and defeat the shameless Presidenta that has been discrediting the country. Pic: The Senate's Opposition. In my biased opinion, this is the beginning of the end of the Peronist regime in Argentina. For me, who only knew the cowardly, frightened, persecuted Jewish community of the seventies, the emergence of the Jewish community as a virile, fighting political force is astonishing.

Minister Timmerman, by the way, is the son of the journalist Jacobo Timmerman, a Poylish refugee in post-war Argentina. He was kidnapped by the Military dictatorship of the seventies. He declared himself a Zionist, sweared to have lost interest in Argentina and asked to be repatriated to Israel. Israel intervened to save his life but he soon moved to America. The Israeli Ambassador in Buenos Aires asked Timmerman Junior how his conscience allows him to French-kiss Ahmedenijad, an antisemite and sworn enemy of Israel, when he has a debt of gratitude for saving his father's life. Timmerman called the Israeli Ambassador to publicly humiliate her, declaring angrily on TV that Israel had no say in Argentina's internal affairs, and less than all the right to represent Argentina's Jews. Jewish solidarity in action! Biblical justice demands that vultures funds pick out his eyes and eat his liver.

Argentina erratic behavior in the last decade may be the jewish revenge for the persecution they suffered in the 70s.

Jews and Israel have América, they don't need anything more.

I don't know what's worse - anti-Semites or spammers or traitorous Jews.

The comment above gives insight into the anti-Semites' mind. To Jews, guys like Timmerman and Trotsky are traitors to the Jewish people, to anti-Semites they are counted as Jews and all Jews must be blamed and punished for their actions. Meanwhile, even greater non-Jewish criminals (Stalin,Kirchner) are ignored - anything bad that happens is due only to the Jews.

The antisemite above has no idea how powerless, impotent, frightened were the Jews under the fascist Juan Peron (although he did nothing to us) and the military dictatorship (which killed many Jewish intellectuals, but never for being Jews, which hardly were). Only now we are seeing an assertive Jewish community, and that is the point of my note. BTW, it was the American Jewish community that took the frightened Jews of my youth under its wings, and nurtured it to its current health. It was not Israel, but those American functionaires in charge of Latin America and the IMF and the World Bank, that for some reason were one-by-one open and proud Jews. I am a Zionist but K has a point when talks about the poivotal role of American Jewry, because the current courage of Argentine Jews is all because the example and work of the Jews of America.

It is unfortunate that the Jewish community is being assertive. They have no ability to back up the bravado. America's Jewish community is in a tenuous position itself, blamed by anti-Semites for America's failed Middle East wars and disliked by the multicultural leftists its leadership supports. That is the sad reality of being a Jew - always under attack and a hair's breadth away from the pogrom, gas chamber or Irani nuke. The establishment of Israel did not end this history. It established a large conveniently located reservoir of Jews for the Arabs and Iranis to kill with tacit leftist European government support.

It's not 1939 anymore. The position of Jews in the world has changed. Israel is a nuclear power and Germany isn't. Most Americans harbor no ill will to Jews. The numerous fundamentalist Christians love Israel even more than the American Jews themselves. The rats post their Jew hatred on blogs because they are rightly afraid to show their face in public. To be branded a "racist" is a sure way to lose your job and everything else.

I don't think Argentina's Jews are acting with false bravado. No one in Argentina dares to lay a hand on them. Any kind of pogrom would make Argentina into a pariah state. Even Europeans who are anti-Israel are not OK with pogroms.

That's true for now, but I'm not confident that a backlash against multi-culturalism wouldn't carry the philo-Semitic Americans over to anti-Semitism. Likewise, pogroms aren't acceptable now, but they happened not so long ago, and they could happen again.

The next time there is a pogrom anywhere, the Israeli navy will station a submarine carrying nuclear tipped missiles off the coast and then the Israeli ambassador will send a polite note asking them to stop.

Somewhat OT, but has anyone been paying attention to the story of the ex-LAPD shooter? Part of his manifesto is posted at the Gawker website, and it offers a bit of proof of anti-Semitim among one of America's most vibrant ethnic groups:

"They stated that I had bullied a recruit, Abraham Schefres, in the academy when in reality and unfounded disposition from the official 1.28 formal complaint investigation found that I was the one who stood up for Abraham Schefres when other recruits sang nazi hitler youth songs about burning Jewish ghettos in WWII Germany where his father was a survivor of a concentration camp. How fucking dare you attempt to label me with such a nasty vile word. I ask that all earnest journalist investigating this story ask Ofcr. Abraham Schefres about the incident when Ofcr. Burdios began singing a nazi youth song about burning jewish ghettos."

What's amazing to me is that the shooting of the 2 innocent women by the police hasn't gotten more coverage. The police (thinking that they had sighted the cop killer (even though neither the plates nor the color nor the make of the vehicle matched), opened fire without warning and shot dozens of rounds into the truck. If you kill an ordinary citizen you get a trial but if you kill a cop the other cops just execute you. That's the code of the streets.

One thing that the 20th Century proved is that the dangerous policy of being politically active is less dangerous than political passivity. Argentine Jewish community has no desire to rule but needs to protect itself. It needs political power. It needs to become a player in politics. Frightening, very much so, but necessary.

You can assess the quality of an Argentine government by the amount they talk about the Falklands - the more they blabber about Malvinas, the shittier they are. If things are not going well at home, you bring up the Falklands to distract the voters. Perfidious Albion! Timerman talks about the Malvinas a lot.

The Falklands obsess Argentina. It has no significance at all for them, no one ever wanted to live there, it is completely irrational. The fact that the British navy defeated them without any real fight makes them crazy.

K, police is sending a message. They can kill anyone anytime if they feel the desire to. No one can do anything. The country has changed. Any government official related to any power struture has power of life and death on civilians.
